WHAT IS PATREON?

Patreon is a subscription platform where your patrons sign up to get access to the content you put out. It is like a private social media feed that Patrons pay to access.

Patreon is also considered a crowdfunding platform, but unlike Kickstarter or Indie-gogo, it is ongoing, not just a one-time one-project campaign that has and end date.

Alternatives

1) https://www.buymeacoffee.com/ (Pro: one-time contributions and memberships in one palace) as opposed to having an additional Paypal. me link. (example: https://paypal.me/MotherSonProductions)

2) Facebook/Insta now has memberships (con: 10k follower limit)

WHY I chose Patreon:

Name recognition. Ubiquitousness gives it cred. When people are entering their credit card info, I don’t want them to think twice about the security of their private info.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE of creating a Patreon Campaign? (for me)

  • Grow audience
  • Grow funding for projects
  • It is not a money-making move for me at this level I am giving a huge amount of time and lots of content, including mailing out notecards. Profit is break even if that.
  • It is mainly about building a community for me. But if you are more business-minded and number focused, you can figure out how to make it very profitable.

ITEMS YOU WILL NEED TO FILL OUT to create your Patreon Page

  • 1)Choose a name; this will also be your URL extension – Why I chose Bodhi The Movie Maker instead of North Port 1999? My patrons are supporting me, and one of the number of projects I am doing with their support is my novel. Though my novel is the main thing I share on my Patreon, and it is the main thing the patrons are getting for their money, they are also getting access to other things I create. That is why I chose to name my campaign after me (the artist) and not my novel (the specific artwork.)
  • 2) Description
  • 3) about section –
  • 4) Trailer or Teaser video
    • What makes a good teaser? A few ingredients you may want to include in yours are: audience testimonials, descriptions that leave us hooked, evocative imagery, the promise of being a part of something large

Find a comparable or two to use as inspiration for your campaign

    My examples:

    LAUNCH PLANNING

    QUESTION TO ANSWER when planning.

-Will you launch be virtual or in-person?

     Launch plan

    -virtual or in-person?

-have a live broadcast component even if in person, that way you have extended reach and it saves the video automatically

-Additional videographers on the day, capture it.

-Do you want to use secrecy to build anticipation? or let people know ahead exactly what you are launching and that it will be a Patreon Campaign?

    THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

-Even if your launch is in person, have a live broadcast component. That way you have extended reach, and it saves the video automatically.

-Additional videographers on the day, capture it.

Watch the video for the full information. This was only a portion of the info covered in the 1st and 2nd videos.
